30-Minute Walks lessen the risk of Alzheimer’s

Nobody wants to think about old age, but perhaps it’s about time that they do. The more we get older (Yes, you! You’re never too young to start thinking that you’re actually getting older), the more at risk we are of degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

There is some good news in all this though. The solution to cut Alzheimer’s is probably simpler than what many think. A mere 30 to 50 minute walk 3 times a week can actually cut your risk of the disease at very significant levels.

Why? Because exercise increases blood flow to the brain, which in turn will bring the proper nutrients to the area and will help wash away any of the ‘debris’ called amyloid beta protein that causes the disease. Studies found out that when older people aged 60 and up engage in short exercises, they increase their blood flow level to 15%.

How did they find out about this? Why, by using mice, of course. Studies were done between mice who were allowed to exercise and mice that had passive lifestyles. The exercising mice appeared to have 80% less plaque in their brains than those whose lifestyle remained sedentary. In fact, even a doctor from the Alzheimer’s Research Center at the Mayo Clinic says this of physical activity: : "Regular physical exercise is probably the best means we have of preventing Alzheimer's disease today, better than medications, better than intellectual activity, better than supplements and diet.”

Of course, talking about men again, it is never too late to start exercising, and never too early at that. Enroll in a regular program at Stone fitness now and jumpstart your way to an Alzheimer free lifestyle.
